She continuously refuses to recognize the truth, George’s honest love for her and her own growing affection for this young man, and a reason for this is the fear from the conventions stated by her family. She always keeps back the events and happenings connected to George from her family, except for Charlotte, and when the Emersons buy a house in the same street where the Honeychurhes live, this house of cards from lies seems to be shattered by George’s approach. â€Å"I do love you – surely in a better way [Cecil] does. †¦ I want you to have your own thoughts even when I hold you in my arms† (Forster 165). Although, not George is the only person who finally plays a role in giving Lucy her desired independence, Cecil also puts a halter round his own neck. â€Å"It is his mockery, his patronising condescensio n, and bloodless amusement at other people’s words and actions, †¦ that create the turns of plot and inadvertently sends his bride-to-be into the arms of his unsuspected rival† (Scherer Herz 144). The last confrontational push is actually given nearly at the end of the novel by Mr. Emerson and with his contribution Lucy can successfully face her fate without regretting it. â€Å"You love the boy body and soul, plainly, directly, as he loves you, and no other word expresses it. In conclusion, it can be stated that the symbols of Lucy’s awakening given by fate during the whole novel are all equally responsible for shaping her naà ¯ve nature into a right, open-minded and truthful woman who is perfectly aware of her inner needs. Italy certainly opened her narrow, young eyes about the unnecessary conventions both in society and religion, moreover it showed her first the importance of the happily free love. Lucy’s attachment to playing the piano, when the outside world seems chaotic, releases carefully locked up desires and passion to assist her finding freedom and the value of complete independence. At the end, by accepting the absolute truth in her life which was hidden for some time from her, Lucy finally gets what she deserves: she can live fully with a truely free soul. In the beginning of the story I did not like the way it was going. As I read deeper into the book, A Farewell To Arms I discovered the complexity of the characters themselves. I discovered that Frederic Henry was a rather complex character as well. When you are finally given the full picture of Frederic Henry, you realize that he can be described in several different ways. In section 5 of Discourse on Method by Descartes he talks about the difference between beasts and humans. He starts off by saying that if there were a machine with the same organs as a beast, that it would be indiscernible from the actual animal. But if there were a machine with the same organs as a human, we would notice the difference. According to Descartes there are two major reasons why we would be able to notice the differences between the human machine and the human, and not the animal machine and the animal. The first reason is that the human machine would not be able to communicate in the same way as we humans do. The machine, of course, could react to normal stimuli such as a hot poker being pushed into its side, but when it comes to more complex wording such as expressing one’s feelings, the machine cannot do this. Even though an animal can repeat human phrases, they cannot speak the language. An animal machine with these same organs would act in the same way as the animal. While a rational human would be able to look at a situation and act depending on how they feel. And different people will act in different ways, unlike the machines that will all act the same way. Personally I disagree with Descartes reasoning, mostly his first reason. The main reason why I disagree with the first part is that science has evolved since Descartes time and with it a more detailed understanding of animals. I believe Descartes first reason is sound for most animals, but when it comes to some extremely intelligent creatures such as chimpanzees, dolphins, etc†¦ I believe he is wrong. The reason being they do indeed speak a language to each other and therefore can express themselves in a way that a machine would not be able to repeat. I agree with Descartes second reason on how you could discern the difference between a human machine and a human. No matter how detailed you make the human machine, there is no way to create a human soul. This would be stepping into the realm of God and a creator. So I believe that Descartes was half right. Overall Descartes Discourse on Method was an exceptionally brilliant book for the time period and the explanations that he came up with were indeed fantastic. His two reasons for why a human machine and an animal machine would be discernible and not discernible, have paved the way for many philosophical debates for the future. For the information that Descartes was provided with, he described his beliefs in a clear and understandable way.

MCAT studying is a whole different ball game. For starters, unlike class exams or standardized tests administered just a few times a year, you decide when to take the MCAT. Being able to manage your own schedule means it’s important to create a structure around the exam, be disciplined in your studying, and make sure youre 100% ready when the date rolls around. Claire tells us that at first she did not have a designated study period, and that was not a good approach. â€Å"I assumed that I would take the test when I was ready,† says Claire. â€Å"This was a terrible plan as I continued to procrastinate. Once I created a timeline of 4 months, I was able to really focus and get good work done.† Taking courses vs. studying on your own â€Å"I took an in person course, which actually was NOT a good use of my money. The teacher did teach us some strategies, but I did not find it as helpful as I was hoping. I wish that we would have learned more content and ways to remember all of the information. I mainly read the books, watched online lectures, and did question bank type activities, which were very helpful.† Qbanks, qbanks, qbanks!! According to Claire, reading the books and taking light notes while attending/watching lectures lays a great foundation to cover all of the material on the exam. Claire claims that creating a good foundation is a good start, but that qbanks are really where is at. â€Å"Once I had a foundation, I used qbanks a lot. Qbanks are great!† Divide and conquer Organization is key when studying for an exam that covers so much material. According to Claire, Kaplan says that students only need to know about 60% of the material, but Claire still felt compelled to learn all of it, which can be overwhelming. â€Å"Trying to cover everything is incredibly challenging,† says Claire. â€Å"Luckily, I had Cram Fighter to help space out the time.I tried to study each subject for about 2-3 days and then switch to a new subject.† Take breaks As dedicated and focus to the MCAT as Claire was, she also acknowledged that taking breaks was important for her mental and emotional states. Claire chose Friday as her MCAT free day. Don’t be hard on yourself Studying for the MCAT can be awfully stressful, and at times, you are your worst enemy. Remember that if you do your best in preparing, you will do well. The MCAT measures how much you’ve studied for the MCAT, so if you know you have, you will do just fine.
